FORMER NEW YORK STATE EMPLOYEE PLEADS GUILTY TO FRAUD AND TAX EVASION

On August 26, 2008, Edward P. Goldblatt pled guilty to fraud and tax evasion as a former purchasing warehouse assistant at the New York Power Authority (“NYPA”). Headquartered in Albany, NY, the NYPA is a non-profit energy corporation established by the State of New York providing low cost power to government agencies, municipalities, and private entities.
Mr. Goldblatt was responsible for purchasing and awarding millions of dollars worth of contracts for goods and services for NYPA’s plant and offices. According to the indictment, Mr. Goldblatt was accused of receiving $167,000 in kickback payments for steering contracts to a vendor. Conspiring with the vendor, Mr. Goldblatt overcharged the NYPA $86,000. He also failed to report his receipt of any of the kickbacks on his income tax returns.

The bribery scheme took place from 2003 to 2007 at the Charles A. Poletti Power Project facility in Long Island City, N.Y.
